Library Services

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

If an item is needed from a library that the patron cannot visit in person or at which the patron does not have circulating privileges, she or he is encouraged to request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Forms are available at the circulation desk and should be returned to the library staff. Please keep in mind that receiving material through Interlibrary Loan can takes up to four weeks. Patrons are responsible for keeping track of when their ILL materials are due.

New Books

A bibliography of newly received books is printed in Insight and posted on the bulletin board outside of the library office. The new books are shelved in the Reading Room on the shelves to the immediate left as you enter the room. The Library Director is happy to receive requests for new books.

Study Carrels

Study Carrels are located in the stacks on the top and middle levels. All materials on a carrel must be checked out. Please speak with the Assistant Librarian if you wish to reserve a carrel. Full time commuter students and students with children are given priority for the reserved carrels.

Computers

There are five computer terminals in the Library: two in the library office and three in the reading room. All computers have Microsoft Office and Excel, Internet Explorer and BibleWorks. The manual for BibleWorks is kept in the Library Office. Each computer is connected to a printer in the library office. Printing is $0.10 per page. Patrons must pay for all printed pages, including errors.

Photocopier

The photocopier is located in the Library office. A counter must be placed in the photocopier for it to work; a tally sheet is kept on the circulation counter to help patrons keep track of how many copies they have made. Copies are $0.10 per page. Patrons must pay for all copied pages, including errors.

Using Other Libraries

ACTS Libraries

CTS faculty, students, and students have library privileges with the libraries of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS). An ACTS borrower identification card is needed to check out materials. Cards can be obtained in the library office. A complete list of member libraries, their locations and hours can be found in the ACTS Library Council Brochure. See More About ACTS Library Council.

University of Chicago Library

Privileges for the University of Chicago Library can be obtained by visiting the ID and Privileges Office in Regenstein Library during that office's regular hours. CTS users will need to show both a CTS ID and currently valid ACTS card in order to be issued privileges. Based on the expiration date of the ACTS card, University of Chicago library privileges will be extended through the academic quarter that most closely matches the expiration date of the ACTS card.

University of Chicago policies will apply to University of Chicago loans, including policies for handling overdue materials, fines, lost material, claims returned items, and recalls.
